Pensarn beach is a vast nature reserve and beach situated in North Wales and is one of my favourite beaches in Conwy.
Catch it at low tide and it will reveal the soft golden sand beneath, whereas at high tide the beach may be a little smaller and predominantly shingle-based. A small wood-panelled beach shop and quaint cafe called “Pantri Bach” adds that inherent Welsh charm to the beach.
It is also suitable for wheelchairs and disabled users, making it accessible for anyone who wants to visit.
It is a year-round favourite amongst both residents and tourists alike.
Most notably, it was awarded the ‘green coast award’ for its work to protect its coastline, highlighting spots along the coastline which are doing more than most. It is also recognised as an SS1 (site of special scientific interest). The site holds biodiverse flora such as sea radish, sea kale and Ray’s knotgrass.
Overview of Pensarn Beach
An adjoining promenade also makes it a perfect spot to stop and take in the untouched views. A parallel path runs alongside the beach, making it a first-class path to run, cycle and traverse along next to the panoramic views of the beach. Cycle Route 5 skirts along the side of the beach and goes all the way to Great Orme.
The path is part of the North Wales Cycle Network and runs east to west, making it a favourite for those preparing for road races or for those just simply doing it for pleasure.
You will often even see people riding their horses there from time to time.
If you are one for outdoor activities, this beach offers a copious amount for you. From kayaking, surfing, and canoeing to wind-surfing, it’s all on offer – what’s not to like?
Are There Toilets On Pensarn Beach?
A small yet perfectly sized toilet block makes it perfect for a pit stop for passers-by and tourists.
Can You Stay Overnight On Pensarn Beach?
No. Overnight stays and parking are not allowed at Pensarn Beach. Anyone who does will be registered and fined by the local council. However, there are many picturesque campsites nearby which will be better suited for camping and overnight stays.
Can Dogs Go On Pensarn Beach?
Your four-legged friend is not allowed on the beach during a certain period as part of a seasonal ban on the beach. This takes place from 1st May to 30th September. During this time dogs are only allowed on a small section of beach marked between the wooden posts next to the café and the concrete posts near the western end of the promenade. However, dogs are allowed on the rest of the beach all year round.
