Llandudno Boat Trips: A Complete Guide

Llandudno is a timeless seaside resort, considered the largest in Wales. Surrounded by Liverpool Bay and Ormes Bay, it is home to award-winning beaches Llandudno North Shore Beach and West Shore Beach on the North Welsh coastline. With the incredible panoramic views of the deep blue around me and the cloudless skies above, I indulged in the Victorian elegance of the town, watched a traditional Punch and Judy Show, and enjoyed the vibrant history and cultural scene.

One of my favourite attractions here was the Llandudno pier, a 700-metre promenade that stretches out into the Irish Sea. It has a pretty, movie-like atmosphere complete with quirky shops, fair rides, and more. After I had my fill of Llandudno on land, I was ready to set sail and see what was out in the expanse. At the North Shore Jetty on the promenade, there are boat trips that take you out to sea.

What Can You See on the Llandudno Boat Trips?

On the Llandudno boat trips, you can take a look at the area surrounding the town. This includes extensive views you can see only from the water, the caves and coves, and the lighthouse on the Great Orme. The Ormes are two limestone headlands famed for their history and natural beauty. As well, you’ll be able to learn more with the informative commentary. Dogs are welcome on the boat.

What Options Are Available?

Once at the jetty, you can choose between a half-hour tour that goes past the Llandudno Pier and to the caves, coves, and lighthouse, or a more extensive one-hour tour to visit both the Great Orme and Little Orme – a registered bird sanctuary. I recommend taking advantage of the longer tour to see everything the area has to offer.

How much do they cost?

For the half-hour tour, it costs £5 for adults and £3 for the child fare. The one-hour tour is £10 for adults and £5 for children. Be sure to check the prices of the fares online in case there are changes.

Boat Trip from Llandudno to Puffin Island

For a more specific tour to Puffin Island, you can depart from Conwy Marina for a coastal adventure to see a variety of birds and wildlife. 14 different birds flock to the area depending on the season and migration patterns. The boat will even make a stop at Penmon Point Lighthouse, constructed in 1838. Whilst I wasn’t lucky enough to spot any puffins during my visit, I did manage to spot a seal that had apparently come to the beach to give birth (shown in the photo at the top of the page!)
