Conwy Mountain Walks: A Complete Guide

Conwy Mountain (Mynydd y Dref) is a historical area of hills located west of Conwy, North Wales.

This popular family-friendly destination is the place to go if you’re looking to see the area from new perspectives.

It has an elevation of 244 m, overlooking the sea of Conwy Bay. I visited the area on a breezy summer’s day and absolutely indulged in the stunning mix of purple, moss green, and other colours around me

Most interestingly, Conwy Mountain is the remains of an ancient volcano that erupted around 450 million years ago. It, therefore, boasts plenty of historical sites such as the Neolithic Hut Circles and the Iron Age hillfort that you shouldn’t miss!

Be sure to pick up a leaflet in advance from the Conwy County Borough Council to learn about the geology, wildlife, and history of the mountain.

Conwy Mountain Circular Walk

The Conwy Mountain Circular Walk is a 4.6-kilometre walk that begins in the town of Conwy.

The first half of the walk leads you to the summit ridge, where you’ll be able to see the grand Carneddau range in Snowdonia, Wales, and fantastic views of the coast, among other staples of natural beauty.

Once you’re done snapping some pictures and admiring the view, there’s a wide track that takes you back to the town.

Being so close to the town of Conwy, I was happy to be able to tour the World Heritage Site and pick up a warm drink before embarking on my journey up the mountain.

How Long Does It Take to Complete the Walk?

Depending on your personal pace, the walk will likely take around 1.5 – 2 hours, which makes it a short to medium-length hike.

Is It Difficult?

The route is known to be a relaxed and approachable walk that is suitable for families and pets. I’d describe it as a hike not so much done for a big challenge, but to enjoy the wonderful scenery and panoramic views at the summit. However, you’ll want to ensure you’re ready for the physical activity.
